one hesitates to brag, because, obviously I have work to do to catch up with the real connoisseurs :
3.0 - only one
4.0 - 82 to date.
I refuse to vie for the 3.0 row honors.

I have 91 in the 4's and 7 in the 3's ΓΆ€” almost 100 of the 684 entries I have offered up have failed to break into the 5's :-)

Well, I've only been in 101 challenges to date, even though it seems like much more. 102 actually, but I'm not including the current challenge in my breakdown.
So far I've accumulated:
Disqualifications - 0
3's or below - 0 (Although I did come uncomfortably close with a 4.09XX score once)
4's - 19
5's - 74
6's - 8
7's or higher - 0
30 in my 5's range have been between and including 5.5 and 5.9999 so for the most part I'm consistently average give or take. LOL.
I had to count those up manually, so I take it there is no stat page here that gives us that info...correct?

Last personal best was April 2007 with only a 6.3034 (with my old pentax with no light meter).
My breakdown...
Disqualifications - 0
3's - 1 (my brown ribbon, woohoo!)
4's - 26
5's - 53
6's - 3

He's got me on 3s, but I have a 100 more 4s than whiterook. I stick out my tongue in your general direction. |

My impression is that voting has gotten tougher by about 0.5 points in the past year or so. I don't think it is necessarily about changing tastes, but about habituation. IMO, this site has so many great photos that the expectations for an entry are much higher. With a PB at 6.37 (and only 3 above 6.0), I have no illusions about being a great photographer. However, two of my photos have been framed and are being included in an auction to benefit a local charity.
There are many folks on dpc that produce great images week in and week out for years.
I think almost everyone who participates regularly here learns things that improves their skills as a photographer.
I KNOW that almost everyone on DPC takes shots that are outside their normal "comfort zone", and experiment with things they've never tried before - new angles, new lighting, new concepts, new subjects, etc.
In most situations, a great image is timeless - it doesn't matter whether it was taken yesterday or 8 years ago. It would be kind-of neat to see a collage of PB shots from DPC'ers who have entered 100 or more challenges. |
