Oh no, please help!!!!!!

I have been wanting to own this movie (Der Schuh des Manitu) for so long! I finally found someone on Amazon.de (Germany) who ships overseas (to Australia) and it just arrived, but now I can't watch it!

When I inserted the DVD into my DVD drive, Windows Media Player said: "Your system is set to DVD region 1. To play this DVD, set your system to region 2".

But then the next screen tells me I can only do that 4 times, after that I'm screwed!

All you clever people out there - who knows a way around this, please?

Perhaps you can buy a cheap DVD player, after confirming that the model can be changed to another region code. Many DVD players have undocumented backdoors to make them region-free. Do a web search on the subject and you can come up with a lot of info.

Ok, will someone please tell me what that means? That I posted something after someone else said it? Why Yanko?

It means someone takes the time to answer a question, but everyone ignores the answer. Then someone else will come along and post the same answer & after that everyone will congratulate that person for being so clever. In the past, it usually in one way or another involved Yanko and the term was coined. ;D

eta: I was a little quick to respond about being yanko'd, because first the OP would have had to thank you for your answer or someone else would have posted about what a great answer you gave.

Ah, thanks for filling me in. I was out of the loop on that.

Thank you, Kelli and Steve (and Yanko ;-)

I may just have to get one of those players some day. In Australia, everything costs 2x to 3x what YOU guys pay, but I'll look for one, anyway.

In the meantime, I found another solution. I actually have TWO DVD drives in my computer, and decided I can sacrifice one of them to the region Gods. I'll still be able to watch local stuff on the other one, and still be able to copy disks regardless.

Cheers, Karin

Ok, so absolutely no help here, but I just wanted to join this thread to jump around in excitement about how this is the BEST MOVIE EVER!!!
My brothers and I would watch that movie over and over and over again when we were younger. I had completely forgotten about it!

LOL!
I don't usually care for slap-stick, but the first time I saw this movie (just the once), I was laughing so hard that I missed a great deal of it.
Can't wait to watch it a few times in a row so I can settle down and catch the little subtle nuances.

Last night, I tried watching it in English, but it just does NOT compare - you miss out on at least 50% of the jokes that way.

Looking forward to watching the German version today.

I could be wrong, but there have got to be programs that let you rip the DVD onto your computer and then change the region.

Hmmmmm...I'm wondering if this player would be an option for you?

That was EXACTLY what I was thinking, and the very reason I asked on DPC.

It sounds that this dvd driver : AnyDVD manage to bypass region protection without doing anything else than installing it.
There is a 21 days trial, it should be enough to see it ;)

Well, you said I Yanko'ed you in another post earlier in the week, but in actuality I was probably typing a longer answer at the same time you were posting yours. I DID read the whole post, and nothing was there at that point. It wasn't until I completed my post that I saw your post there. That's what happens the majority of the time. My posts can sometimes be pretty long and technical because that's the industry I've spent 30 years in..tech etc. and I tend to be very descriptive as possible...so yes, it often looks as though I read existing posts and then replied in the same manner, but that's not the case. It's just the way these online forums tend to flow. :)

...but BTW...I DO appreciate what you are saying because the shoe has been on the other foot many times where I do post and answer and someone else chimes in with a similar one etc. You're right...often times the other person gets the thanks, but again...that's how these forums roll. LOL. The way I look at it...as long as the OP gets the help they need then the thread was successful. :)

Awww! I'm sorry Dave. I've only ever said it in good fun. No harm intended. ;D

Absolutely no harm taken Kelli. I laughed when I read it. :) I'm just pointing out how easy it is to get "Yanko'd" innocently. LOL :) I don't want to see anyone serving time for Yanko'ing because I think it's currently illegal in 12 states and other countries around the world. LMAO!

Not sure that it would help me for this, but I do like "free and open source" :-) Have bookmarked it for future reference.

Now I am drooling... that bundle sure would be useful to have. I think I'll check out the trial version this weekend, thank you.
