Okay, I entered their Sigma contest. I got notification today that I was in the finalists with one of my images. They will print it in their Best of 2011 book for $55. Has anyone had an experience with them? Is it for real or sort of a scam? |

Franktheyank, if they are asking for money to include you in a 'book' - well.
If it was me, I would thank them for the recognition of your work and let that one go.
These "book" sellers go after everybody, including "who's who in [you name the field].
It is unlikely the book they promise will ever go to anyone who does not pay for
it in advance (usually the lucky contestants). If indeed, it goes to anyone at all.

Get yourself a nice canvas print of the photograph for about that same price. :-) |

You hear of such books every now and then. Once I heard of one where the photographer really DID get a book (small, lousy quality, awful photos in it) and it really did contain his photo as well.
Sad part was, his photo was a cheap, terrible print, glued onto an empty page :-(
They obviously do that so it becomes much harder to do something about it.... after all, he did get a book and it did have his photo in it, right?
