Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG Macro for Minolta

Hi All,
I am new to photography, i recently started it as a hobby but i think i am getting more in to it.
Right now i have sony A390 with few lenses like 70-300, 28-80 , 50mm.
Actually i am more interested in portrait shots so can anyone suggest me good lens (not very expensive) for the start.

I really appreciate your advice.

You already have one. 50mm.

Actually the 50mm i have in an old minolta one, the performance is not that great.
