Last winter I had the local police stop by my car and ask about what I was doing. Turned out that I was stopped about 500 feet from a local prison, so they had to check me out. But no problems with asking me to stop or anything like that. I imagine this is the most typical end result of photographer/police interactions, it's just the negative encounters that make the news.
