I took this today, another of my human comedy candids. The man sells lavender flowers 5000/bounch. I know this ain't funny for most of you who don't speak my language but the name of the flower on his cardboard is totaly misspelled.
Your comments are welcome.

I don't find the image funny in the slightest.
I find it a sad state when someone has to poke fun of someone that looks as though he might possibly be homeless or the only money that he may make that day is by selling those flowers. Perhaps if he sells them, he will have enough to eat a small dinner that evening.
I had a family member who looked much like that. He lost everything in his life, mostly due to his mental illness and unwillingness to get help. He lost his home, his mind, his health, everthing and in the end looked much like the man pictured here.
You want 'Human Comedy'? Go take a picture of someone with a "Choose Life!" bumber sticker or sweatshirt on. What's funny there? Well, I have seen far more then my share of people with those shirts on smoking cigarettes as well as being well over the recommended healthy body weight level. It's an ironic sort of funny that they say "Choose Life!", but they miss the point and spend their time wasting theirs.
I hope you bought some flowers off that guy instead of just laugh at him. |

Homelessness, misspellings & insensitivity aside – I think it’s a good picture. It tells a story, maybe not a happy or funny one, but there is certainly depth to it.
The contrast is really good for a color to b&w, what are your tricks?

If it was a 'Human Condition' shot without any reference to suggesting it as 'funny', I would have taken the image quite differently.
The composition is nice, it is an excellent choice of color for the subject. It would fit quite well as an advertisement suggesting that one assist the homeless.
I still can't get over the insensitivity calling this a human comedy because of the misspelling. It's just a heartless thing to say. |

I did not say the image is funny, just the inscription on the cardboard is (in my language). The image is sad to me too, and sadness is what I wanted to acomplish with the tonal rage also. If you look at my portfolio, I take many candids of people like this, and I call it human comedy. This doesn't mean it's funny, to me it reather means something like we as human race are a joke or something like that. The use of the word comedy is also supose to be ironic, subtle if you wish, I don't intend to suggest that the picture is funny, quite the contrary. Excuse me if I left the impression that what I tryed to acomplish whas a funny image. Belive me I live in a place where this tragedy of older people are being completely left out, is quite common, and I don't find it funny at all. And yes all the flowers you see in his hand are right now on my girlfriend's desk, and every since I took this shot,
whenever I have to buy the vegetables she sells I buy it from this sweet granny.
Anyways thatnks for expressing how you feel I really would hate leaving the impression that I make fun of these people. Thanks all others for your comments also.

Here are some more shots of what I Ironicaly call "Human comedy" I'm not sure about how it sounds in english as a non english speaker, but in the similar in my language "comedia umana" the irony is quite clear.
With the exception of the last one none of them are funny.
