I have just ordered the same make (except the metal version) from the same site (great service). Can't wait to give them a whirl when I get back home.

I have one or two other Phottix products and can't fault them to date.

Good luck with your choice!

I didn't notice a metal one. Not auto-focus anyway. I'm off to have another look.

Where do you live, SunriseOnSea?

However, for my sins, I am in Joburg for the week ;-)

I couldn't find a metal one but I suppose I can ask tomorrow when I go there.

Joburg's not so bad and at least you missed out on the icy weather we've been having. I do envy you being near the sea though.

Just a quick update. SunriseOnSea was right - I bought the metal ones. Now I just need to find some time to play with them.

Congratulations! You will have fun with them.
I would start real simple, shoot some coins on your desk. get a feel for the short DOF and very close focus distance.
Try them with your different lenses as well. Each will have a different focal distance and maximum magnification.
With a zoom, you can adjust the focus point by zooming in or out also.
Macro makes the every day seem extraordinary. Fly's are not beautiful, until you see their amazing colors and details with a great macro shot.

I'm sure I will have fun with them. I just wish I'd had them in time for the macro challenge. Ah well, there will always be a next one.

Macro works very well for a Pattern shot as well. You can look for something interesting and shoot for that challenge right now!
Many chances to use the technique. Find a detailed object and shoot away... More than a day left, lots of time!

Good idea. I'll have to see what I can find.

Congrats!

Now you get to learn about the joys of focusing via careful tripod placement or by rocking your body back and forth. You can also work on the very important skill of centering very tiny subjects on your camera's lens, at the same time. Oh and using a viewfinder that's much darker than you'd like!

Personally, I think tripods are for wusses. Unless you're focus stacking, that is. :)

Indeed. But don't forget compulsive use of the DoF preview button as well.

Nah, just max it out all the time and go for it. ;)

Hi
I am new here and in the same place as the original author of this thread was (even live in the same country :-)).
I would like to know what your experience with the phottix tubes has been and if you are happy with your purchase.

thank you for taking the time to reply

That was my first thought, upon seeing this thread resurface, but it does not smack of spam to me, and the new poster has only made this one post. I think they found this thread via a web search while looking for reviews on the Phottix tubes, so created a DPC account in order to inquire.

oops ... I obviously phrased something seriously badly :-(.
This is not meant to be spam of any sort (blush), it was a genuine enquiry. I was looking at getting the Kenko extension tubes for my Canon 550D and came across the phottix. Upon a websearch to find out more about "phottix" this discussion came up. I would have liked to know how the person rated this particular item, that was all. I hope thsi is within the parameters of this forum - if not I appologize.

Regards
Gaby
