I have just found //www.redbubble.com/ and I thought I might join them and put together a portfolio. Any DPCers on RedBubble?

I've wondered about that myself.

Margaret, what is it that you want from another site? There are 1000s of different sites out there, but each is different. 1x as you know is a curated gallery and had an excellent critique section.

Fotoblur is also a gallery type site, that is not curated. You can post whatever you like on there and other members will comment and "promote" your image. The more promotions you have the more exposure you get. Once a quarter you get the chance to submit images (which are then voted) for submission to a magazine.

500px is similar to Fotoblur.

Eyefetch is a bit like DPC, has challenges and competitions.

I thought Redbubble was mainly a place where you could sell calendars, cards, prints etc?

Then there's OneEyeland, Jpeg, worth1000 etc, etc,

I think you have to decide what it is you really want. No harm in being on all of them then you get plenty of exposure.

Thanks, Sarah. I am planning to post few photos on some of these sites just to see what happens but I have been looking for a site that has:
- good quality photographs
- sense of community
- some form of feedback
- some challenges to try
- examples to learn

I like RedBubble so far. It has topical groups I can subscribe to. It has also a lot of Australians and that way I can find the best places to shoot. I have already discovered 2 Melbourne photographers with the portfolios I really like. One of them posts all details of where and how the photo was taken. That will be a big help for me as I keep on learning.

The calendars are a commercial front like prints on 1x. Personally I don't believe that many people earn a living from selling prints in any form. There are just far too many of them. I think the sites make better money from paid membership and paid contests.

In other words, everything DPC offers! I don't think I've come across any other site that has all of those qualities you list apart from DPC. You will certainly find good quality pics on Fotoblur, 500px and Oneeyeland, but you may miss the constructive feedback and community aspects.

Thought of one more, definitely there's a sense of community, challenges etc, but may not be your thing. It's largely flickr based, but has it's own website which links to your flickr account (assuming you have one). When talking of flickr, of course, that place is huge, but there are some groups on flickr that would give you what you are looking for, I'm sure. Sure for every good group there are 10,000 rubbish groups where you'll just get Nice shot or awesome comments.

If what their intro shows is true, thay are arts related. 1x, what ever, is not arts related. Nothing artistic on that site at all.

I've made a few sales here and there... nothing so big as to be lifestyle changing, but hey...

I just clicked on the link and all I can see is "Safe Filter is On". Not that I am surprised ;)
