Certainly something a bit different for me. Though more of my images lately have been like that.

I have noticed that your style has changed Tim. I rather like it!

I have toooo many to choose from.....oh woe is me !

Always a good suggestion for any "style of" type of challenge.

Saying that though i find Ben's worldview to be hopelessly serene, optimistic and beautiful so for my entry i'll attempt to ugly it up a bit. I'm sure he won't mind.

Thank you, and go ugly!

If I were limited to one word to describe Ben's style it would be "thoughtful", both in his approach to the taking and presentation, as well as how I find my response to much of his work. Even the ones that make me say "huh??"

I like the "huh??" response .

I, very much like Clive (who first introduced me to this concept), do my best to make an image open, even the seascapes (sans eye-candy purple skies). For example, if Clive's response to an image is different than Voter Joe's response, and both are different than mine, then I'm pleased with the image. Nothing worse than presenting an image that evokes a uniform response (good or bad); to me, it means that I spoon fed the viewer and wasted their time, and mine. Very unsatisfying, both for the viewer and me. That's why I often use BW; color often restricts the interpretation of an image based on it's visual power. I happen to think movement in the frame, either via blur, or composition of available shapes and tones (go see ZeusZen for proper examples), adds to this. I know this can't apply to all genres of photography as a whole, but there are bits and pieces that can be applied to just about every photograph we make.

Great words. If my image pleases everyone or alienates everyone, either way I lose.

Back to the matter at hand, I suck at being Ben. Might have to go with Plan B: In the spirit of bspurgeon.

I'm thinking "sort of Bennish." It may or may not happen.

My a la Ben is in. Couldn't say for sure if it's Bennish but it's quite different from my usual fare. For that alone, I thank you Mr. Spurgeon.

I am in but not quite sure about this. Should it be like Ben's or shouldn't? Ben's post basically says if the entry looks too much like his own images it will get a uniform response. And that means that winning in this challenge is really losing. This could be the first challenge in which nobody wants to win a ribbon! ;)

inspired to get a membership in order to enter this challenge (thanks for that), don't think my entry is bspurgeon enough but it was fun to shoot something way outside my comfort zone.

Hmmm. Not how I read his post. His objective with his own work is to evoke a response, be it good OR bad. He didn't really address anything about the challenge itself or how others should approach it; instead, he provided a bit of insight into how he approaches his own work. Would be a great challenge to ribbon in!

OK, I was just kidding. I am somewhat disappointed that my intentions were again misread. Good luck to everyone in any case.

LOL! No worries. I can see where you're coming from. I suspect overall it will be a lower scoring challenge than a landscape challenge. But probably a lot more interesting and varied!

Did someone say "Purple?!!!"

My purple skyscape is IN...;-P

Good Luck everyone!

Cool -- 888 challenges, and my slim lead has actually lengthened slightly the past few weeks, what with all the additional challenges available ... :-)

I haven't looked at my pictures yet, but I took a bunch of lensbaby shots through a dirty car window at 60mph so I **know** I've got a ribbon in there somewhere.

At my rate, it'll only take me about another 12 years to catch you.. (provided you break your camera today and don't buy another one...)

Care to battle? It's been a while since I have beaten you in a challenge hasn't it?
ETA - doesn't have to be a score battle. Maybe based on comments or some other criteria.

It's probably been since the last time we both entered. (You tend to beat me literally 9 of 10 times - I once did the stats.)

But yeah, let's give it a go. I'm not expecting great things, but really really had a great time shooting for the challenge!

any suggestions for getting that dark moody look in the absence of welding glass or an ND filter??

I just did a quick peek at the last 10 challenges both of us have entered. 6 for me and 4 for you and the tenth one had a score difference of less than .0100. So we are practically tied. I had fun shooting for this one too. Forcing me more into a different mindset that I very much enjoyed. I am going to be in Chicago for the first handful of days of the challenge but should be able to keep updated on scores through my phone.
