I have some money saved up and I'm tempted to upgrade my camera body. In doing some reading the 7D sounds really great but is it worth the extra money over a 60D? If I get the 60D I can also get a macro lens which I have wanted for a while.
So what do people think? Is the extra money for the 7D worth it? |

Snapsort says they're too close to call. Check the comparo at that link. |

Interesting comparison tool... something's amiss with their shutter delays, though. There is no way either of those cameras is that slow!
Ah... I see the reason. The shutter lag time they are quoting apparently includes AF time. Well, that's downright misleading, since it will vary depending on the lens mounted. Their times are identical to the times quoted on Imaging Resource, down to the millisecond. Appears they mined them from there. Interesting to note that Imaging Resource tested this time with a third-party lens, and a macro lens at that! |

It also says neither camera is weather sealed, which is just plain false. HERE'S another comparison. |

Thanks for the link. But the prices are out of whack. Also it says that neither is weather sealed but both DPReview and The Digital Picture say that the 7D is. |

The 7D is weather sealed...trust me. Naturally you want to have a weather sealed lens to put on it as well if you plan on taking it out in harsh elements.
If you want to know just how weather sealed the 7D is...ask Jorgen Liodden how well it performed in Antartica. :)

Whilst the 7D is 'weather resistant' it is not recommended that you expose it to rain/dust etc. It may be ok for a light shower as long as you remove the moisture asap.
Canon 7D weather sealed?
There is only one truly waterproof/weatherproof DSLR that I know of and that is the Pentax K7
Pentax K7 takes a shower!
Whilst some people with 7D's have got away with using it in adverse weather it is a big gamble

I have both cameras.
Unless you need the extra frame rates and focus points of memories (c1, c2 and c3) of the 7d I would go with the 60d.
It's a really nice camera.
Nicely set up with the major buttons easily accessible.
(Much nicer than the 300d)
Nice size and weight also (larger than the rebels but smaller than the 7d)
So, unless you have a reason to go for the 7d, I'd say to go the 60d.

Thanks for all the advice. At this point anything would be a major upgrade from the 300D. Unfortunately with the taxes here in Nova Scotia the 7D is $1780 while the 60D is $1150. So even though I have been pining after a 7D I don't think I can justify the extra cost. |

So I have decied to get the 60D. Here is my new dilema. At first I was going to buy it locally $1000+tax=$1150. But since the money I have to use for this is in US funds and the price is better on www.bhphotovideo.com $900+duties+tax+shipping=$1055 I thought I would just order it from there but for at least a week it has been listed as: Temporarily unavailable!
Argh! |

You are going to be SO IMPRESSED with the 60D... the upgrade from the 300D is HUGE. I went from the 350D to the 40D and couldn't believe it. The lenses that I own performed so much better with the new body.
Congrats!! And as difficult as it is, wait and save a little money so you can get a top-notch lens. Don't ever skimp on lenses. :-) |

I just want to add my opinion that slickchik is right on regarding the importance of buying quality lenses. Although I have gotten some nice shots with the kits lens that came with my first DSLR (20d) I really saw the difference when I bought a few good lens.
I hope to see some familiar shots of home once you get your new camera. |

I agree with you guys about the lenses. That is why I replaced the kit lens on my 300D with an EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM.

I'm going to order it from Adorama. Going to get a Hoya ND 9-stop filter too :D |

My first two entries using the new camera:
This one used the new Hoya "Black Glass" filter. I have a feeling I will be experimenting with this very much in the next few months.
