So I have progressed from "available" light to studio to what a stupid flipping waste of time back to available light then to any damn light available (via Strobist to studio nuke em) and recently back to just plain whatever as long as I don't have to carry it....... I used to hate every picture I took then thru a period of liking a few to more and now back to hating em all again. In the process... the more I learned the less I know.....
Then when I'm ready to dump this heavy expensive gear as a bad joke - for the 5th time in the last year I might add - You get one of those images that just makes you go.....
Shite... Just pull the trigger on the metaphorical gun I am sucking... please... It's more humane. I think I'll take up golf - maybe I can die quickly in a lightening storm.... |

Yeah fair enough.... and it's not because it's a technically perfect image (obviously)... I see the noise on the bottom right and left corner and not brilliant composed and the funky catchlight e.t.c.. Nothing but a 50mm (f1.4) and light from a laptop on his lap and whatever the room had - iso6400/f2 between both on them - so not much :-).
But it's just one of those images to me.... The reason I keep slepping this stuff around and beating my head.....

So, if I got this straight, you've shown us an ISO 6400, ambient light shot that pleases you so much it justifies schlepping around all your heavy lighting gear? I don't follow...
For what it's worth, I ditched all that stuff a LONG time ago. Available light is all I'll do.

Nah... I mean this SLR thing vs. what most other people have like a camera phone or P&S something... sorry been a long day and just got back from the fire works so not making any sense. I did go thru a stage of over using lights and am moving away from that to a more simple setup of a body and single prime.
I am amazed at what this is for iso6400/f2... just amazed. So much better then if I stuffed around with lights..... |

I carry around my SB-600 when I think I'll need light. That, my on camera flash, and improvised diffusers from whatever I can get my hands on (paper, ribbons, reflective and shiny things) is usually enough for whatever I'm trying to do. |
