My neighbour, Kevin, is back from a Europe trip with a bunch of photos he wants to sort out.
Kevin is NOT very computer literate - he knows he has a Windows machine, but no clue what programs may be on it. Probably nothing useful.
He needs something to organize and batch rename his photos.
I considered a few for him, but didn’t like them:
â€Â˘ Windows Live Photo Gallery – can’t seem to drag thumbnails around to order them.
â€Â˘ Irfanview – batch rename is possible, but moving them around first seems very awkward.
â€Â˘ Picasa – I find that program confusingâ€Â¦. it seems to work in mysterious ways.
Assume he doesn’t have Photoshop or Elements, and doesn’t want to buy anything.
Are there any simple, free programs you could suggest that make it easy to move thumbnails around, then rename the files?
I thank you for your thoughts and suggestions.

| He may think about downloading a creative suite trial, just so he can use Adobe Bridge. Photoshop will quit working after 30 days, but bridge, and the batch renaming features should remain |

There may be something along those lines in the freebie imaging software thread.

I was thinking of Adobe Bridge as well. For Mac GraphicConverter is quite similar.
As for Picasa, I haven't tried batch renaming but it does create excellent photo collages (for free!) – even better than the paid apps I tried.
