I do a decent amount of uploading of miscellaneous images. I participate on a truck forum, design forums, and from time to time just like to keep a photo-record online for when I need something. I'm trying to figure out the best way of doing that. I have a personal website with unlimited storage/bandwidth, so it doesn't make sense for me to use my flickr and photobucket accounts - it just ends up being more work to try and find where I put things.
So I thought I'd give lightroom's gallery feature a whirl. I connected it to my FTP, got a directory setup for it, but what I'm finding is that when I upload a new image, it's re-writing over the old images.
Am I missing something? I just want a hodgepodge gallery where I can upload an image as I need it -- I don't want to have to create hundreds of little sub-galleries with 1-2 images in them, it doesn't make sense. Is there an easy way of doing this that I'm missing? |

It sounds like Lr wants to create a web gallery at the location you specify. It doesn't want you to 'add' files to a gallery, so it is not partial to whether there is a gallery there already.
If you want to include your old images in the web gallery along with the new ones, you'd have to add the new ones to the previous gallery/library collection, and output the whole gallery all over again.
Basically, whatever you upload most recently is the version that is shown. |

You might try looking at "publishing services" or web gallery plug ins.
This one, for example, says "Adding, removing or changing one image doesn't involve uploading your entire site. The plugins keeps track of your changes and uploads only the photos that are necessary."
(I've never used these, though, so don't take that as a recommendation, just an example.) |

Found a couple of things that work. Looked at both of these last night, but their servers were down so I assumed they were out of production. If that happens for you, just keep trying after a couple hours.
//www.photographers-toolbox.com/products/ftppublisher.php?
Pro- Works like a publishing service, allows for syncing of folders and creation of multiple folders. Drag and drop simplicity.
Con- $16, else you only get to publish 3 photographs at a time. *Nearly* built in.
//www.presetsheaven.com/2009/10/27/export-to-ftp-with-lightroom/
Pro- Built in, completely free. Unlimited uploads.
Con- No syncing, have to go to the "export" options every time you want to add something.

Yes. LR requires you to upload the entire gallery each time. This is because it's building the page each time you go to upload so if you're only choosing one image, it will build a page with one image and overwrite whatever was there before.
What you can do is set up a collection for each page you want to create and add images from time to time to this collection. When you add to the collection, regenerate the page and upload it again.
Not the best way to maintain a site but it's what you'll have to do to use the web module with LR. |
