Well that's what the challenge was all about, wasn't it? I'm sure lots of us use tripods for lots of entries, but the whole point of this challenge was to make it obvious. It's not really that hard.
I'd love to see a challenge calling for photographs of brown dogs. Then I'll enter a picture of white cat (which I'll name something like "Dreaming of being a brown dog") and complain when people comment that it doesn't meet the challenge topic. |
Trust me! I used a tripod. It's a self portrait and the shutter speed wasn't as fast as you might think... But thanks for your comment anyway. I do appreciate comments.

From 5.1 in the early votes... At least I think the tripod is obvious... ;-P |

I love it... Point well made. You mean you don't know what I was thinking when I pressed the shutter. How dare you dock me points because you can't read my mind. It's just roulette. Lets face it, a photo that is incredibly sharp, with color and contrast will do well even if it doesn't come close to the challenge description. I'm off to shoot pics of brown dogs now to shoehorn into a "take a picture of white cats" challenge. I agree with you totally Qiki. |

I highly doubt this will stay in the 6 range, but quite pleased for however long it decides to stay there :-) |

I guess my HDR is so well executed that it is not detectable and the voters assume no tripod was needed. I was not going to enter, but did at last minute. That'll teach me...
Sitting @ 4.8ish right now. :-(

Wewll my HDR is unmistakenly HDR which I did on purpose so it would not get mistaken but yet I got 1 comment with a low vote. The commentator says the image is way over processed and she cannot see why a tripod would have been needed. Obviously never heard of HDR at all. |

Weak, weak, weak. Well, I did the best with the day and conditions I had. I'm crossing my fingers my Absolute Ad will be more than a point higher than this one.

I see quite a few images featuring a tripod in the picture so I guess some folks took the challenge to mean that a tripod has to be included in the shot but there's no way to tell if the camera the shot was taken with was itself actually on a tripod. |

That's not what I suggested so need for that kind of sarcasm and tone. I am merely observing something just as someone else in this thread has done. Why the need to give me flack. I could not care one hoot really whether it was used or not personally and did not vote anyone down for it.

It was just meant to be a joke. Sorry. I shouldn't have replied to a specific post. Just reading this thread though made me giggle because it honestly seems like there are enough opinions here to have the whole lot thrown out!!!!
Please don't be mad at me. |

I am a big fan of HDR shots and always use a tripod for mine, so the need is obvious to me. However, it may not be as obvious to everyone since you can also get a HDR-like effect from programs such as Topaz Adjust from a single image. That may be what is influencing the low votes. Just a thought. |

this challenge voting has turned into " lets see if there is any way I/we could make a reasonable doubt the image was taken using tripod"
or not so reasonable, like " if you had a specially made camera, with a magic lens and a help of God...you could take this image without Tripod...therefor I deduct 9 points "

Unfortunately HDR does not necessarily scream "must use tripod". Sure, it is a better bet you will get more accurate alignment of your photos in post-processing, but there have been many, many times that I did not have my tripod with me so I used my camera's auto-bracketing + continuos shooting mode features (set at -2, 0, +2) and shot my HDRs handheld with great success ... of course as long as my slowest shutter speed was not slower that 1/10 sec or in that ballpark. PS usually takes care of the minor misalignments for you. Also, as dswann mentioned, you can achieve an HDR-like effect with a single photograph especially when the sky is not overpowering the ground lighting-wise.
Having said that, I would not vote down any image that is an HDR. I will assume a tripod has been used.

I agree with everything nightpixels just said. I have taken probably 2/3 of my HDR shots handheld because I didn't have a tripod available at the time. But I too am not voting down because of that.
I'm going to comment on every image in the challenge and note what I feel is the obviousness of the tripod use. If the obviousness isn't high, I will make sure to note why I noted that. Hopefully this will help people understand what some voters are thinking. |

No need to be sorry Penny. It's me that ought to be sorry. I realize in reading my reply to you that my tone actually comes across as quite harsh. Sorry for that. And I'm not mad at you at all.
