Has anyone ever used this lens before, I have just aquired one tonight and cannot wait to try it out on some nature hike or even at a football game, will it handle the speed of a soccer game or sporting event and how about image clearity, I have never used a Sigma lens before so just looking for opinions really, it is a very LOOOOOOOOONG lens and will need a tripod i believe, thanx for any comments.

May be alittle slow for sports photography. Give it a go and pray for sunshine. If you tripod head has a good smooth panning action you may get away with it.

Im trying it out today ill post the results, its just going to be boring shots for now until i get to the game to try it out properly. I have a Nikon ED 80-200 @ f2.8 might use that with a 2X teleplus adpt instead of the Sigma again ill post some results.

OK I'm off with my humungously long Sigma to annoy the neighbours for a few hours.

I have the Sigma 50-500/4-6.3 lens, and I shoot quite alot of sports at 750/6.3
There are a few tricks - at night games, you won't be able to freeze the action, even at ISO1600. You can underexpose images, to get slightly faster shutter speeds - around 1/350th. For day games where the lighting is good, the lens should work quite well.

I use a Nikon 80-200/2.8 push/pull zoom for night games, no teleconverter. It's 10 times the lens the Sigma is. My Sigma is actually in for service, the aperture lever is sticking. Waiting for the final report.

Here's some Sigma 750mm at F6.3 images of sports. She'll handle the job.

Good luck with the new lens!
