just wanted to get some feedback...
is it common, rare, or a no-no to enter an image in the Free Study that is a variant of an image that was entered into another challenge the same month? say, for instance, one done with a single exposure and pp under Basic Editing rules, and another version that was done using HDR?
thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Check out the last free study ribbon (I think second) and the first place winner of color on color. |

You can do whatever you want, as long as it is different photos. You cannot reuse the same exact image, but you can use extremely similar images from a shoot.
However, if it's pretty close to an entry, I wouldn't do it. A lot of people frown on it. Though I have certainly seen practically the same exact image win a challenge and win a free study. Just personal opinion. |

In this circumstance you would need to make sure that the original you entered under Basic is not one of the source images used for the HDR version -- you would have to use a completely separate set of original source images.
Other than that, it is fine (legally) to use separate originals from the same shoot in different challenges, even if nearly identical; for example, shooting a still-life in burst mode ... however, as mentioned, people who vote in both challenges probably won't approve ... |
