I'm fairly new to this site, and got that 'alert' saying to send the site my unedited, original image of a photo I had entered in a challenge. Does this mean someone 'flagged' my photo thinking I over edited? Is it most likely going to lead to disqualification? Should I be shaking in my chair, wishing I had obstained from a certain editing tool?

Anyways, maybe I'm just feeling sorry for myself! I guess I just want to know if this is a common occurence or not...

Yes it is a common occurrence, they do random checks on images to make sure people are following the rules. As long as you did, don't worry about it.

I agree with the common occurrence statement. However, I don't think random validations are done. My understanding is that it takes a few "suspicion of rules violation" messages along with the concurrence by site council members that a validation process should be performed.

Nothing to fear from this, as long as there haven't been violations of the given ruleset.

I've gotten a few requests for validation during challenges. Someone thinks you may have violated editing rules. My most recent was in the HCB challenge. Abra thought that the aspect ratio of my entry and how straight it was might indicate I had done some post processing on it when it was a minimal editing challenge. The aspect ratio was because I was shooting with my G11 instead of a DSLR, and how straight the shot was had been due to my having it propped up on a wall opposite the subject with plenty of time to align it.

BTW, it is not normal to know who put the validation ticket in on your entry. In my case, Phil told me in a comment that it was him and why he did so. After validation, you can contact SC if you like and they can tell you what someone was suspicious of. They won't tell you who, though.

Is it in a current challenge or a completed challenge?

I just got a DQ from the "never seen on DPC" challenge...but it was a fair DQ....sometimes that happens...

kenskid, it is in a current challenge. I wont take this too seriously, although in the future I'll keep a bit steadier eye on my editing... If the shot gets disqualified, at least I'm not the first and only!

If it does get a dq they will somewhat tell you why.

Well, that's what a SC member told me, and an inquiry a few weeks after that got me an explanation. Your mileage may vary...
