You want to round-off the corners of the picture, something like a solidly-opaque vignette?
I think that should be OK in Advanced editing, as long as it follows the other guidelines, i.e. is a distinct border and not an extension of the photo background. |

It did get a comment from the border patrol, but nobody challenged it's legality.

Well, that was one of my entries. I felt it was legal, but it didn't get any validation requests either. I think as long as it is distinctly a border you are fine.

I think if you go back through challenges, there are a number of images that used non-rectangular images inside the rectangular image space. Sometimes, in fact, this is unavoidable; how do you accommodate a hemispherical fisheye image which is round by definition into a rectangular space for instance?
The thing to avoid is making the transition fuzzy enough that the outer perimeter is considered a vignette, not a border. I would not go much fuzzier than the example posted.
