I apologize if this isn't the correct fourm, but didn't see anything else to fit. I have 2 Nikkon D90's the newest less than a year old. While shooting a set up for a wedding I have to take THIS SAT... I kept noticeing something wasn't correct on my new camera with the histogram. I just took her out and set my gray card up. It is metering 2 stops too light (to the + side) the histogram is totaly to the left when useing the gray card to meter. I have gone thru everything even to setting it back to factory settings. Swithched lenses, taken the battery out replaced it, no matter what still the same. I need BOTH Camera's for this wedding Sat ARRRGGGHHHHH ... ANY ONE EVER HAVE THIS HAPPEN??? AND IF SO WHAT DID YOU DO.... About to puke up my guts!! |

whoa... sorry -- I don't know anything about Nikon...
However, some settings are still retain when you remove the battery -- (date, time, etc). Maybe find the little backup battery and remove that as well? |

Look on your menu and see if your exposure comp. is on or off. |

Make sure both cameras also have the newest firmware and the same exact time. Probably not helpful to your problem but something to check when you are using 2 cameras. |

Many cameras have a button (like the "red" button on a Pentax) to reset to factory default settings.
Ah, the D90 has a green button (per Ken Rockwell) |

Do you mean you are comparing your two D90 with same setting and one of it tend to meter 2 stops brighter?
2 stop brighter is quite serious. Default 1/3 EV steps (b1) show 2 stops bar of each sides, EV 1/2 steps will show will 3 stops.
I think you need to send it to Nikon Service Center. If you own 2 pro bodies (D300 above), I think there is a priority service offered for emergency cases. |

Ok spent a day going thru everything, calling Nikon.. and OMG do I feel like a total idiot... To save anyone else from this STUPID place to put an exposure gain or minus.... When your Flash is on you can hold the flash button and adjust the flash exposure by 3 stops... NOW if you have a off camera flash on BUT you don't have it turned on, then it defaults to your metering by up to 3 stops... I had been using a fill flash a couple days ago with a -3 setting on the flash power... ahemmm but had the flash turned off, it still read like it does when the flash is on... STUPID STUPID place to put the short cut for what ever they call it... Seriously If I wanted to meter at 3 stops below I would freakin' do it manualy... I had Nikon experts all around that did not know this would happen. I just accidently found it .... sheeesh But Thanks Everyone for all the ideas!! |

I didn't even chime in on this tread b/c I knew you would eventually find that it was a "setting" ! I'm glad it is fixed.
