anyone have any ideas on a quick fix? Am on holidays and my usual camera curse has kicked in....grrr...
I am really starting to distrust canon, all normal things tried, i.e. battery, mem stick, ect...

maybe that's your problem; you're putting a memory stick where the CF should be :-) Like a square peg in a round hole...lol
Just kidding, are you making sure to always format cards before putting them in?

Not sure which things you have tried to clear this, but check this long, rambling thread on Sportsshooter.com that has several different methods used to clear this error with varying degrees of success.

By any chance are you using a 70-200 F/2.8 IS? Seems to show up a lot with that particular lens according to the thread. No first-hand knowledge here, since the 1d Mkii is out of my league, price-wise.

Is there a fix to the Error 1 on Canon 1D bodies?

thx using the 100-400mm L usm, it works when turn IS off apparently. I will look at thread,, thx for info
