Last night my wife and I went to see an excellent documentary, Bill Cunningham New York. Cunningham is an 80+ year old photographer for the New York Times covering style/fashion. While he photographs models on the runway, much of his work over the decades has been street photography documenting fashion and style of the common New Yorker. He weaves his bicycle in and out of Manhattan traffic to get to a shoot, scampers up and down the sidewalk snapping photos of interesting pedestrians, and, until recently, lived in a tiny apartment over Carnegie Hall that is jammed with file cabinets filled with negatives (yes, he only uses film). Fascinating guy and captivating film.
