Just started using a Mac at work (again after a 2 year gap when I used a PC)
OSX is new to me, is there not an image preview like on Windows XP? As in when I view my files little thumbnails come up so i can see what i am opening...
Surely Macs must have this feature somewhere..?

When in finder you have a choice of three different views. One is thumbnails another is a unique column based approach to browsing a directory tree and I think the third is a regular list. Sometimes the jpegs don't show in the thumbnail view.. I think it depends on the format and/or application used.

| Yes there is. If you click the 3-column icon in a finder window it will display a preview of anything in the column next to it. |

| You can also drag any number of files to the Preview application for a better view. |

The thumbnail (icon) won't show unless it has a preview genererated by something like Photoshop. Otherwise, it will show the generic jpg or tif icon. Like scalvert already mentioned, you can just double click it and it will open in Preview.
If you don't want them to open in Preview, right click any jpg and select "Get info." Then click on the triangle next to "Open with..." You will see a drop-down menu that has applications in it. You can then choose the application you want to use for that particular file or all of your jpg files.

| You won't be able to preview 'Save For Web' files in particular, since Photoshop removes all extraneous data - including thumbnails. |
