I went to edit a shoot from a few weeks ago to notice that they are missing from my computer. In fact, two shoots are gone from my computer and hard drive. I know they were there the other day because I had exported a few of them for a client. I dont know what happened. The only thing I can think of is when I tried to run bootcamp to install windows 7 that they somehow got deleted, other than that I did nothing. I havent even emptied my trashcan in about a week or so and they arent in there.
Anyone know anything? |

If the original files are on Mac, then not sure any of this will help.. but you can try :)
Do you know the file name of one of the shoots (as they are normally in order) If you do try the following on the (windows side):
Click start
Click on the search box, type CMD. hit enter
Type-> cd \
Hit Enter
Type-> dir /s
Hit Enter
this will take a little while. It will then list anywhere on your computer where that file may be.
Also, was anything else different? like desktop background gone, any other files missing?

if I recall correctly, bootcamp allows you to share the whole of the drive, and lets you map the mac partion. So you could try doing what I suggested below but on the drive letter of the mac partition.
But instead type this...
dir /s /h
best I can do until a mac person posts.. sorry |

If you can't find them from the spotlight search and you say you haven't deleted them, then the must be there, right? Or then still on your flash card?
I haven't used this specific software, but you could run this in demo mode to see if they are on your hard drive. I've been using the photo recovery software from these guys for 5 years and have recovered photos from cards that have been reformatted etc, so I think their regular file recovery software is probably good too. In demo mode you can't actually save the files, but at least you maybe able to find them. If not, try the photorecovery software on your cf/sd cards, you never know, they may still be there.

I don't think so, but at least it may help you find them. If it does find them, then you can figure out if it's worth paying for the software, or then try to find another way of getting them off the hard drive. It'll probably find hundreds of things you thought you had deleted (well, you probably had deleted them but the software seems to find them).

Do you run Time Machine backup? If so, check a backup created prior to attempting to install Windows.

Picasa does a pretty good job of finding every image on your computer and it's free.

Then leave it running and check back in the morning :) That seems slow, but I suppose it depends how fast your machine is. |

| Did you go to the options menu and just select the jpeg and raw files? That should speed it up. I checked on my 1tb hard drive and it said almost 5hrs with all file types and 2 hrs just checking for photos. |
