I have asked to have my account terminated after much consideration. Although I met some really nice people, I have also come across some not so nice people. I came here to learn, but really have not learned anything...instead, I just get a crappy vote with not explanation..with an occasional nice comment (too far and few). I have given out many comments, but in turn have not received many back (in relationship to what I have given out). I do believe there are some good honest people here but I think there is quite a bit of deception going on surrounding votes. Personally, I don't think that is a good fit for me, I'm finding that I feel very frustrated and I don't really enjoy that feeling. I want to create art and enjoy myself - it is not good to spend your time putting something together and no appreciation.
Best of Luck to All.

Personally, I understand... however, this is the place you actually "can" learn a lot, it's up to you (without worrying about the votes too much)... they do get under my skin as well, and often I might add.
I hope you'll come back. I once too cancelled my account, after all i did for this website... and still want to contribute if I can earn more money. It's like living with the family for a long time, you just want to get out after all that fight going on, but you miss them later and show up for another reason.
Good luck to you as well! |

I'm sorry you feel that way... and I'm sorry to see you go. There is a huge amount to be learned on this site, sometimes it just takes a little digging.
As for the bad apples, they really stick out like a sore thumb. But if you look at the score distributions, you'll see that there really aren't that many in the scheme of things. Don't let them get to you -- they're hitting everyone. Wherever you go in life, there will be a couple of jerks, whether it's work, home, school. This place is no exception. Don't let them ruin a good thing.
Regarding the comments, I was incredibly disappointed when I started -- I expected getting incredible feedback and massive amounts of comments. It won't happen. Instead, I turned to people whom I respected and asked their opinions, suggestions, etc. I've learned an incredible amount from them. Really, you learn the best from comments by making them. Not in order to get more comments, but to analyze. It's easier to critique others' photos than your own.
I wish you'd reconsider, and just look at things in a different way. I've enjoyed your company. :) |

I am sorry to hear you will be going, and if you must, you must. But why not just step away for a bit? Take a month or two off, and leave open the possibility of returning.
As a cynic, I expect the average person to be a ....well a less that ideal human. The crowd here is reflective of the greater world, and a good bit better that the average group I meet out in the world. If you worry about fairness you will drive yourself to despair. Gather the rosebuds, but don't be surprised by all the pricks. As my father used to say "Illegitimi non carborundum"
If you have to go, fare well. |

Wendy already said what I was going to. The commenting you do yourself is one of the strongest learning experiences to be had. Most of the learning goes on outside of the shark tank of the challenges. The challenges just tell you if you are going in the direction you think are aiming. One does indeed need a thick skin. Play in some side challenges, trade feedback with a couple of others in a similar situation.

Oh holy crap. Like anything, you get out of this place what you put into it. I've been here over six years, we've had some harsh critics and abrasive personalities on occasion, but if the worst of the worst over that timeframe were all active today, I would still say the benefits outweigh the occasional unpleasantness.
If you're looking for a friendlier place than DPC or a "fairer" voting system, don't look on the internet.
Best wishes to you. |

Where did he go?
Maybe he was raptured early.

Classic example of why dpc requires tougher skin than places where people leave 'you are the bestest' gifs. Learning requires a certain thirst that means looking between the lines. No comment means the picture failed to evoke any reaction.. Which means the picture is blah.. What the forums and other high scoring Images do is help with what to do post the realization of the blahness.. Being critical of your own work and tuning your eye to what you think is best also requires work so learning isn't as easy as it looks.
