"important update to PayPal communications - your action required"

If you get an email like this, do not respond or click any links. This is a fairly authentic looking spoof or phishing effort. I received one last week. I assumed it was authentic. It took me to an authentic looking website. But, the update actions did not work. At that point, I realized it was not PayPal's site. I immediately changed my password.

I forwarded the original email to spoof@paypal.com. They responded yesterday that the email WAS a spoof. This morning, my wife received the identical spoof email for her PayPal account. This was forwarded to spoof@paypal.com, too.

i got one as well. Any email i receive with a link to take me to a login page is suspect. i also forwarded it to the spoof@paypal.com address. I should have posted a warning here but didnt realize it was so widespread. thanks Richard and sorry it got you.

I consider myself "mostly aware" of Internet predators. This one fooled me. It led me right into a trap. To my horror, I realized too late that I had entered my username and password on a spoof site. There was no unusual account activity, but I immediately went to the real paypal account and changed my password and security questions.

Yes, I'm posting this here to heightness the awareness of others to the risk.

Thanks for the warning. Seems I too fell into the trap while preparing for this trip and with too many other things on my mind was less vigilant than usual. I've changed my password.

Robert (Bear_music) tells me that every official communication from PayPal will include your name (whatever name you registered with).
