If you ever comes to this area I strongly recommend making time to visit Point Lobos State Reserve, only a few miles south of Carmel. It has one of the two naturally growing stands of Monterey Cypress trees remaining; pelicans; cormorants; seals; sea lions; headlands; and all sorts of interesting rocks at the beaches you can access.

The water was sparkling there the other morning. This overhead shot was taken at sea lion cove.

Make sure to leave your canine friends at home though. :-(

We're back in Los Altos Hills now, Bay Area. Came home via San Juan Bautista. Here're some roses from the Mission garden;

Just a week and change to go before we return home...

This is Roy. He's an astral traveler. I met him at Mission San Juan Bautista. He has met Kali, and says that she is, contrary to stereotype, a loving, if harsh, mother. He likes suspenders. He preferred the Latin Mass. He says the Mass sounds "strange" in Vietnamese.

He's an interesting fellow. Roy's probably not his real name; he never introduced himself.

And here's the sanctuary of the Mission church we both had been visiting. Hand-held at 1/13 sec, 100mm IS lens... And the baptismal font where he was baptized, as was his father before him.

And here's a statue of the Virgin, with many, many rosaries draped around her neck.

And here's the view from my Sister's place just before sunset; the large hangars are former blimp hangars at Moffet Field.

Gorgeous view. And you're making the most of those elegant clouds we've been having lately.
Who would have thought that these historic buildings you allude to, home of the US Zeppelin airships,
would have (and are still enjoying) such a storied career.

Edited to get my tenses in a row.
:)

"They" are trying to save the big silver hanger (it's full of asbestos and other toxics) -- it's so large it has it's own weather inside.

Here are a couple of flowers from Pt. Lobos
these two are simply processed with IrfanView

Encountered this tour bus at Point Reyes; it's home to 26 Germans and their driver for 2 weeks. They'd just embarked on a journey from San Francisco to Vancouver...

The most unique vehicle I've ever seen I think.

Looks like it's made for transporting humans and livestock, very weird vehicle indeed.

I saw one of them at a campground in Auckland, NZ. They call it a Rotel. Those Germans were very efficient, rolled up one afternoon, got all unpacked, prepared/ate a meal so quickly. They were off early the next morning, after breakfast, before I got a chance to take a photo of them roaming around the campground. It was a novelty for everyone, trying to see how they operated. I imagine it would be quite a timesaver, sleeping, eating and travelling with it.

I bet that after a couple of days the atmosphere in there would be quite tense and stink to high heaven! I doubt that there are adequate bathroom facilities for 27 people.

edit to add: I found this on their website

The only serious problem is, while the Rotel features a bathroom, there are no showers. But the tour operator says its mobile hotels do make occasional stops, specifically for bathing purposes.

Hmmmm. I see these parked in front of the mission and the courthouse and always wondered about them. I think I will stick with Motel 6.
