Apparently I will have to use my PSElements for this kind of thing. I chose 640x640 for my crop in the software I used and didn't check it before I entered. Apparently it took it upon itself to make it 640xsomething else.
So...not a square crop.
I'm so bummed cuz I thought I had a pretty good image too.
:( |
That's a shame. I haven't voted yet, but did a glance through the thumbs. I saw three that weren't square, so you weren't the only one. |
Mine is not as square as I thought it was either, it looks square to me, but when i just held an envelope up to the shot, I am off, total bummer. This is what you get when you guess at making a square. I am square challenged.
Edited to add: I really am square challenged, cos I think all the entry's look square when I looked at them. |
I think that if it looks square to the eye....it IS square! LOL If people are actually looking at pixel counts to determine a DNMC entry...there's something wrong! LOL
Hopefully, the majority of voters are using their eyes only and if it appears square to the eye, all is good. For those who are sitting there with measurements of any kind.....Pbbbbbtttttt!!!! You need a life! LOL ;P |

Your argument is fine, but to be honest it is actually very easy to crop square and that was the point of the challenge. If someone is not sure and the image is indeed not square, i think the viewer/ voter can do whatever makes sense to them to determine the validity of the entry compared to the challenge criteria. Cheers! |

If you right click on the photo (on a PC, not sure about a Mac), you can look at the properties and it will tell you the size.
I am not measuring so I can give out DNMC scores, some of them I knew weren't square so I right-clicked to confirm. Then I just figured I'd right cick on some more (not all of them).
Some I took off points for not being a square crop, some I did not. I depended on the photo to be honest.
In any case, the challenge was Square Crop. If it's not a square crop it most certainly is DNMC and voters would be well within their rights to vote those photos down.
But many DNMC photos have scored high and even won a ribbon in the past, so I doubt my one vote will make much of a difference to your overall score. |

LOLOL, I just did the right click thing and WOW am I square challenged. But it still looks square to me. I actually dread to think what a triangle would look like in my eyes LOL
Karen is correct, it is a square cropped challenge and points should be deducted for not fitting the challenge. So I apoligize for not being as square as I thought I was!

Mine didn't come out as an exact square either and I'm at a 4.1 with comments that its not a square! Oh well!

Your entry is very easy to guess. I suspect the majority of voters guessed it too. Should you try to change the subject matter to ensure that this does not happen again? |

I am a little confused as to why I would receive a "proof requirement" for my photo in this challenge when it is at a 4.1 and all my comments are that it is not a true square?
Just thought it was odd |

Anytime a photo appears to have a violation of one of the rules (date, editing etc), it is possible to have it challenged and require validation. |

I remember this being advanced editing - am I right?

It is advanced editing, but advanced has certain rules as well. I see an image that I will likely request validation on when I go through voting (if it's still there), as I feel improper editing has been performed. |

I got asked for proof too. It's not a big deal. Mine would pass the basic rules. |

Sigh, here I have been trying to score sixes with creative shots for weeks, all of which have failed to do so, and my cutesy cliched no-thought-process "ah what the heck I'll enter it" shot is the one finally in that range.
I mean, I am not complaining about the score, but this certainly does not encourage me to be creative. |

I thought there were some really great photos in this challenge. All the photos looked square enough to me. Maybe I just overlooked it but I didn't see any that were way off. |
