| so every time i put in a memory card or thumb drive that has pictures on it, Lightroom automatically starts up, and for the life of me I cant find where the setting is to change that, any ideas? |

In the menue go to
Edit > preferences
in the general tab, uncheck the "show import dialog when a memory card is detected"
click OK
and you are done.
