I'm turned right off of photography right now. There's way too much "politics". One has to first guess as to what the meaning of the challenge is for themselves and then, go in and discuss that meaning ad nauseum in a thread for it all. Anything that isn't falling within the agreed upon "accepted range" gets a 1 to 4 score...even though it fits the challenge description. Think I'll use my camera as a planter now. :) |
Better to be turned right off of photography CONTESTS..... Keep using your camera, shoot for yourself, and occasionally enter a challenge when you feel like getting a bit of feedback. The DNMC Police aside, most people here are pretty open minded, and not everyone here is cutthroat about getting a virtual ribbon :-) A few are, but most not. Good, useful, thoughtful comments are valued more highly than scores by most people. |
I agree...I love a good comment it always makes me feel better about my crappy score. With that said I need some comments to go with my crappy score! |
I got no time to leave a worthwhile comment, but I am happy to zoom by and drop a crappy score on your entry :D |

Ya I thought the challenge was Broke... and bokeh was just a typo. I got last place covered people, nothing to see here move along. |

I am getting killed.. butchered, cut in pieces and put into garbage bags, thrown into cold river... My artwork has been painted with graffiti, cursed and shot to death. I can't believe it is dying in my arms, I can't believe what I see... if the sadness challenge would be now, I would win blue with my face right now, that sad I am. Rocks are dropping slower than my votes, and I don't know exactly why.

Not especially happy, but having finished voting I now know why my entry is tanking. Clearly I missed the fine print in the challenge info that stated entries had to be of birds, bugs or flowers. Don't get me wrong, there are some outstanding bird/bug/flower shots that I would be over the moon about had I been able to acheive them. However, it seems to me that by the time you get # VII of a particluar challenge topic it's just a case of seeing who can do the best job of recreating previous high scoring entries. |

Looking at the previous Bokeh challenges, the overall scores have been failry low. Every single one of the winners had scores in the low 7's until the last one which was 7.3-ish. I think it is one of those challenges where different people interpret the meaning of the word differently. Some want to see tons of out of focus circles in the background, some want to see a smooth OOF background, some in between, and some neither.

I have clicked some photos for this challenge but my laptop screen went pink and I am not able to check the output properly. Then I thought I will edit it from my office PC. But when I reached office and checked the submission date. I already missed it.

I keep pulling over 6.4 during the day and slipping back down in the evening. It's like the old math problem: a snail crawls up a 2 foot well. He crawls up 4" per day, and slips back down 1.5" each night. How long until he reaches the top of the well? :D

Commenters think my technique choices are in fact technique errors...
I think I predicted 5.1 in my notes - I dismissed an image I made that would have been far better received; I'll post it up in the outtakes after the challenge.
Happy to live with my deliberate choices. |

Personally, I look at it this way...when you see a lens advertised for it’s bokehâ€Â¦it never says “Circles of confusion” it usually talks about the smoothness or creaminess of the Bokeh.
Although out of focus circles can be a part of it, they are definitely not the only part.
