I need help pick out of the flowing lenses, or something similar. Budget of $500 or less for now, I know that limits me a bit.
Tokina AF 28-80mm f/2.8 AT-X 280AF Pro, Tokina 28-70mm f/2.8 ATX Pro-SV,
Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX Aspherical DF, Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di
Thanks

I've never played with or even seen Tokina hardware, and I've never used Tamron. But for what it's worth, I do love my Sigma lenses.

For me, the minimum focal length of 28mm would not be wide enough. All your options include f/2.8's, so I would opt for the 24-70. Sigma's EX series lenses are very good.

I'm also looking for a wide angle zoom and I'd *LOVE* to get the Canon 16-35 f/2.8 L lens but I just can't see myself spending that much money now. The photo you took of the horse looks pretty good. Sigma makes a similar lens (17-35mm f/2.8-4.0 EX DG HSM) and B&H sells it for $489. I'm seriously considering that lens just from a price point of view. I know I wouldn't be dissatisfied with a Canon L lens but just don't have the money. Anyone else tried that Sigma 17-35mm lens yet?

Don't forget this Sigma, recently announced here
...retails for $409 at Adorama
I like the zoom lock and constant aperature features of this lens. Let us know what you decide on. |
