Maybe Groupon has a deal going. A "buy one get one free" offer would be nice. |
Check the limits though. I have a list. | Do I have HM on it? |
You should lay low for awhile so soon after you did away with marnet. |

If we get a two for one deal, are we going to do in nightpixels, as well? |

Good idea. We might as well do everyone with more than 15 ribbons. |

If we're going to off people based on how well they do on DPC, you should probably keep a low profile Wendy. I on the other hand, will live to very ripe old age. |

Christophe, you are a class act. Your humility over the quality of your work is humbling to the rest of us. Thanks. |

Christophe, I took up photography just over a year ago, but learning progress has been slow (especially with lighting and post processing). You are just under two years, but it looks like longer. How did you learn so much in such a short period of time? Hope you don't mind my asking, but I am in awe. |

Whew! I'm still safe, with only 13... But that'll get rid of that pesky Wendy gal, and it's just as well; she has nothing left to live for anyway, since she ribboned with a seagull...

I suggest a switch to shooting old guys with big mustaches.

Naw... I know when I'm beat -- there's no way I could compete with you! Maybe I'll have to switch to old ladies with big mustaches... |

Quite an excellent idea, I think.

'nuff said.
To be honest, while he's doing so well and all his skills are nothing more than captivating creativity coupled with exceptional execution and luscious lighting.
Anyone can do that. I just choose not to.

Well, that - and the willingness to actually construct a giant wooden frame and sink it in a lake for a photo contest. Still not even sure how he managed to get the blasted thing out there, or back to shore... His "skills" may or may not be extraordinary, but his effort is herculean.. |

Diana,
It is quite hard to answer you precisely, self analysis is not an easy thing. In my opinion, a first key thing is to know what you want to achieve as a result. For example, if I start lighting a setup, or processing a photo without any clear idea of what I want, there is very little chance that I will find something convincing. Given that, a good way to help you know what you like and want to do is to browse photo websites (1X, Deviantart, DPC, Flickr, etc.) and carefully study others' work. When you found something you think could work very well with your own setup or shot, go for it, and do your very best to reproduce it as accurately as possible. Tutorials can be of great help there (websites, blogs, DVDs, books).
This leads to my second key point: tenacity. I rarely hesitate to sacrifice sleep time if I know I can do better before the rollover. Work takes me quite a lot of time, so sleeping less is the price I agreed to pay when I decided to enter some challenge. I also sometimes decline friends meeting or parties if I know this time slot could be used to improve my current shooting project. I kinda organized main parts of my life around my photo projects, rather than the opposite. Also, if it happens that despite my efforts I am still quite unsatisfied with the result and that there is no time left, I try to resist the temptation and don't submit it at all. Although I sometimes fail to resist ;-)
Finally, in a general way, I try to not take into account usual "limits". I try to remain result driven: it often happens that I have convincing sketches of the final photo without any clue about how to actually realize it. Then I imagine how this could be possible, buy stuff accordingly, build setups, etc. Money could be a problem there, so again, it happens that my photo projects take the priority over other household needs.
I do realize this all sounds a bit pathological, but hey, you asked for it ;-)
Hope this helps! |

Christophe, all I can say to your efforts and priorities is WOW! You definitely deserve every ribbon you have received so far and I know there will be many more in the future. I think I need to be a bit more pathological. :-) |

He definitely has a lot of talent and dedication, and is well deserving. Hard to compete with that when I don't have much of either, but I am going to work on it. :)

Christophe, you are obsessed! I can see the symptoms clearly as I suffer from them too. I wake up at night and think about Bokeh everywhere! :) Horrible stuff, takes over life completely! We may need to start a DPC "Betty Ford" clinic to take us back to our senses! The disease seems to strike at both ends of the scale - from blue (as in you and quite a few others) to brown ribbons (like me).
Anyway, that's it for now, back to bokeh dilemma :) |

Do you remember him?
It seems like last 5 entries of him won blue ribbons... he finally realized that he has to take some time off to share the blue ribbons... or just got bored of the blue ribbons.
... or he just disguise himself as jagar now ;) |

I imagine we'll see him in "Grunge"; he seems to be entering only expert-editing challenges of late. He has entered the last two of those anyway...
