This is a photo I took in New Orleans. Not many people understand the culture here in Louisiana, but it is so rich and diverse. Let me know what you think about it.

Great capture. I can almost hear them... I was there a little over a year ago (with BAMartin) this makes me want to go back!

you know its bad when you begin to recognize, share eye contact and have conversations with the street poeple. Call me quarter trash!

Very nice picture! And you even used the Times Picayune font for your title. :-) I'll be back in New Orleans visiting the parents in August and hope to take lots of shots almost as good as this one.

Not many people could appreciate that or even see the understanding of it. It is something very few people could be enlightened by. We all in a way can blend into area, deep down. I just dont think enough people are at that point to face reality at its fullest.

We should all try to get together when you come down. I am only about two hours away in Lafayette. I try to visit as much as possible, I have alot of kin there. My fiance's folks are there in Houma, so any time we visit them we thy to make a quick trip in the area. I would definitely love to be able to meet you and grigrigirl, your talent is unbelievable.

As much as I love europe and dream of traveling the world, I can not imagine losing the quarter. Its in my blood and soul. Each time I walk the streets...I feel the ever familiar spark of being in love. Whats bad is...the street people are beginning to recognize ME! heh...

I'll end up living there when im old and grey and ever more loony toon.

I think I understand what you mean, Girlgirlgirl. When I walked the Quarter and took it all in, I can only describe the feeling as a deep resonance - a feeling that I was exactly where I should be. Can't wait to go back!

Anyway, here's a pic of a [I think] different band in the same spot. Enjoy...

Awesome!!! Wish I had known of you when hubby and I got married. We tied the knot on a balcony on Bourbon street.

Considering I lived in New Orleans for a while...I would say you caught the essence of the street jazz beautifully.

Thanks, Tim - you're no slouch yourself. :-) I'd love to hook up while I'm in town. It might not be possible this trip since I'm only there for a short while and have about a dozen relatives that I haven't seen in over a year, but I'll let you know how it looks as we finalize our plans. We'll be in town from August 11-13. I'll keep you posted!

I have a couple of questions for those of you who live in New Orleans. How hard is it to fing an apartment/house/townhouse in the French Quarter? How much do they usually go for, both renting and buying?

Hi Juneisy,

I haven't lived in NO for so long that I couldn't tell you. But you can get a decent apartment in the suburbs for $500 or less a month. I'm sure it costs more in the Quarter, I just don't know how much more. Maybe Julia knows?

Nice shot.

You may want to do some grammar corrections though

You can choose from "Laissez le bon temps rouler!" (removing the "s" from "bons" since "le" is singular)

or

"Laissez les bons temps rouler!" (which is the proper plural form of the article if you are going to keep "bons" with an "s")

You can get a teeny tiny little something for around $800 on the edge of the quarter. $2000 a month for a one bedroom more in the heart of things. Ive seen signs for small places on Royal street at about $800 to $1500...but I have no idea what condition they are in. Purchasing can be anything from $300,000 to the millions. Im always spotting abandoned space above all of those t-shirts shops..wishing...wishing...wishing I could make it a studio. But there is a reason for all of that abandon...something about money. Such amazing windows and light...sigh...one day.

Artist live/work lofts are a popular development around here ... if you know some other artists you might be able to put together a redevelopment package and get some funding assistance ...

sounds like a great project, a number of people would probably be interested in something like that in the quarter...
