Im toying with the idea of upgrading from my 350D, but money is a little tight. If you had around $500-$600 to spend, what canon dslr would you recommend? Im not against buying used either. Ive seen a few Canon 1d mark II's for around $600, but im not sure if my current lenses can be used on it?

30D or 40D. You can find these prices in eBay, nice, second hand used. I bought both from eBay and they both came out to be good.... and around that much money :) Also I wouldn't recommend you to sell your 350D, it could be everyday camera, or vacation camera while you can use new purchase for better reasons, like entering challenges here :P

I've had several Rebels then traded up to a 40D but hated it. I had tons of problems with it and wouldn't buy another one. I sold it and went back to the Rebel series and love my T1i. I highly recommend it!

I have a 20D and had a 1D2 (which I sold for my current 5D). For $600, I'd easily recommend the 1D2. The autofocus speed and accuracy is just awesome.

silly question, but can I use the same lenses that ive been using on my 350D, on a 1D mark II? If so, is there a difference in the crop factor?

is your current lense an EF-S series?

You can't use EF-S lenses. That rules out the 18-55 you have; it physically won't mount on that body. Tamron's DiII series also are designed for 1.6 crop factor cameras; I think your 17-50 will mount on the 1D, but that's a 1.3 crop factor camera and the lens might not quite cover the whole sensor. It would show serious vignetting, if that's the case.

Just to remind you, Canon 30D is the only Canon camera has 100% ratings in Amazon. I would not sell mine, if it had 3" screen, other than that, it's a superb camera.
