I. Need. Help.
I'm shooting this very awesome job for a company that makes bandages for the military. They're made to glow under night vision so they can be applied in complete darkness, and the company wants some photos of it glowing. They gave me a sweet night vision scope and some rings to attach it to a 50mm lens. This is all attached to my 5D Mark 2 and set up in my bathroom with absolutely no light coming in from under the door or anywhere else.
My problem is that this high tech set-up can't focus. I have the focus ability to focus further and closer, but when it's right in the middle it's not clear or sharp. It seems like I can focus on a 'floating element' somewhere between my camera body and the end of the night vision, so is it possible that by adding the adapting rings I just can't focus?
Here's the picture of the set up and the image I'm getting:
Thank you thank you thank you! |

| Not sure if that f1.8 lens has them but.... Measure the distance and use the distance marks on the lens to get the right focus point. |

Have you tried manually focussing?
I think your problem is that you're no longer taking a picture through a system of lenses, but what you're really doing is taking a picture of the image created on the phosphor screen inside the NVG. I can't see exactly what components are included in your setup, but you may need to remove the eyepiece and focus on the phosphor screen and look at using a macro setup to fill the frame with the phosphor screen's image. |

Macro... that's a great idea! I'll probably try that tonight when it gets dark out. Besides that, I have been manual focusing the entire time, it's just not working.
After I gave up on shooting the products last night, I went outside and shot these trees about 100 yards away. Even then it was very hard to focus:

I wouldn't want one of those bandages on me, I'd assume the enemy also had night vision goggles.
On the upside, if a colleague was particularly annoying, you could stick a band aide on his helmet...

Fortunately, for the most part, your assumption would be wrong.
Considering that there are IR beacons in the convoy, and IR illuminators being used by individuals, I suspect that a bandage would be the least of your worries if the enemy had NVGs. |

Screw that, I'd stay in the bunker and play CoD.
