I downloaded Inkscape so I could play around with vectors and the like and I suck. It seems very cool and I think it will be great once I get the hang of it. So is there anyone else here that uses Inkscape or other Vector/Illustrator programs? |

I have a lot of experience with CorelDraw from back in the day. I used to do graphic design for a printer, and converted photos to line art for punching in an embroidery shop. It's been a while since I used it regularly, though. |

Is there anything you haven't done? :)
I think this will be a fun and hopefully useful program. Thankfully the internet is full of lessons and tutorials. |

Anyone else here do any illustrations or vectors? Just did my first one and it sucks but I did submit it to canstock more as a test to see if I did the submission process correctly and they accepted it. I don't expect to see any sales from it but it was a good test. |

I downloaded Inkscape last night (OSX) and for a 'free' app, it's surprisingly powerful. I'm impressed.
There are a ton of drawing tools, filter effects, loads of fonts, and even does the layers thing, like Photoshop. In fact, it's right up there with Photoshop in terms of features - Only geared up for vector editing instead of bitmap.
In saying that, I imported a photo and applied some pretty cool filters to it too. And things get very interesting when you start putting vector shapes and effects on top of photos.
There are versions for OSX, Windows, and Linux. If anyone is remotely interested in graphics editing, I seriously recommend taking a look - Here's the download page: //inkscape.org/download/?lang=en

Hey now, Photoshop itself is a great for vector art... It's no Illustrator but it's been serving my vector needs for years.
You should see the huge, 100's of layers of vectors source art for my app Expositor! :)

I use Inkscape occasionally. Mainly for vector work I use Xara. I'm planning to update to the latest version which makes tracing sketches or photos much easier than it was in older versions. It's not free, but it's relatively cheap. |

I prefer Illustrator for my vector needs.
Back at community college, I used to be a lab monitor for the graphics lab, and occasionally had to assist with classes. One day we had a class-wide competition. Using 3 vectored logos, the students had to try to re-create them with less control points than me. I don't remember what the prize was, but it was a fun little competition ((and even better cause nobody beat me, and only a few were able to tie :P )) |
