Okay guys...who has converted a Canon body for IR work?

I am looking at converting a Canon 40D for IR but I want to know will it give me the same results (blue skies/white grass)as the Nikons do. I hate my Nikon and really want to stick with the Canons but last time I looked they only did the BW IR results. Can anyone help me with this before I take the plunge?

I haven't done it, but why would it not work? You are planning on having the IR filter removed, yeah?

ETA: I say convert your 5D classic!

Yeah I have a couple of spare 5D Mk1's but I had a 40D here that I won for Photo of the year. Unfortunately I lent it out and with less than 100 clicks on it the camera was damaged...GRR!!! It is going to cost $800-00 to repair and a further $400-00 to convert to IR. That works out cheaper than buying a camera specifically for IR work. I don't need the 40D so I have a choice...pay the $800-00 to repair or throw it away. So I figured for another $400-00 it may be worth doing to make it my IR camera. But will it do the Blue Skies like my old and horrible, crappy Nikon will do. (BTW...that is only the reason I bought the Nikon too.)

A company here in Australia. They have the camera in for repairs at the moment.

I had my 10D converted by LifePixel here in the US...I haven't used it for color, but you can see some color samples in their gallery.

I used lifepixel too and I'm very happy with the results. I also have a Fuji camera that is IR sensitive. I did not have to convert it.

Yes, I was going to say LifePixel as well, but you (Judi) probably won't want to send your camera to the states. There must be an reputable equivalent in Australia I would image.

I've wanted to get one converted for a long time, but I do have my R72 filter and I have no problem having to use a tripod and adjust the camera before putting the filter on. Still, it would be awesome to hand hold and not have to worry about it at times.

You can get choices of enhanced colors for Canon, but personally I still prefer the look you get with the Stand IR conversion.

I still have my XSi as my second body after upgrading to the Canon 7D so converting that is always an option if I want. I was pretty shocked to see that the standard conversion price has dropped from $400 dollars down to $250.00! That's very tempting now.

Here is the pricing options page for Canon cameras,

Dave
