Never seen so many 1's in a challenge. Even the winner has 11 of them. Geez ... |

I actually liked this one better but thought the side view of my entry was more of a typical Weston pose. |

@epescala
When I looked at number three in your outtakes, I could totally see Weston's work in your capture!
This one totally reminds me of the picture he took of his girl friend in the door way of his house...beautiful image!! |

Seems like Weston's style is not DPC friendly |

Could not convince myself to enter this:
Entry:
Statistically, failed to attract good votes from fellow participants.

I was going to enter this one. I doubt it could have done worse than the shot I entered :-(

Entry
outtakes

A completely crappy and unexpected score on my entry, doubt the outtakes would have fared much better. Looks like I shouldn't have tried to get as close to Weston's style and lighting as I did, seems like it was irrelevant in this challenge. |

Entry:
Several outtakes:
Unfortunately, I ended up having time to shoot only on bright and shiny days...not fantastic for texture photography... |

I didn't enter this challenge but loved voting on it. The overall quality was stunning. I did notice a very disturbing voting pattern though. All the nudes got exactly 12 1 votes. I find this kneejerk reaction appalling. Nudes were an major aspect of Weston's portfolio. People, if you don't understand art of see beyond your own silly prejudices then just move on. |

Ghostwheel
Stellaria Solaris
<<<-----yes, not true B&W but loved the cooler blue tones than the B&W so thus this version is in my porfolio.

From the language in the pre-challenge thread, it was probably to be expected. |

I totally agree. And if they didn't bother to look at his style/subjects/lighting/etc to refrain from voting. Many photogs did a great job of creating Weston's style etc. but received very poor scores. this was not supposed to be a Free Study in B&W but an attempt to emulate someone's style. Very disappointed in those low voters. |

It wasn't just the nudes. Pretty much all the female portraits got hit hard including these:
That is weird to me.

Ehhhh.... we've come to expect it ... the anti-nude votes have been around for a long time.
I was just proud to have the second highest nude :)

I just sent a ticket to SC. There is something fishy going on with the 11 "1" votes for most of the pictures of women......except one that didn't get any "1" votes but got more "10" votes than any photo in the top 10 in the challenge. |

Thanks for noticing that disparity Karen! It appears the whole challenge should looked at carefully and if those 11 voters are "friends" of the photographer of that one nude image and all gave that one image a 10 and the others a 1, everything should be recalculated with all those voters scores deleted on every entry.

Can that actually happen? Has that been done before? |
