......excuse the bad photo but I think it would do better than my current Black & White entry.

Will price out the D90 tonight.

What was it? Did I miss the "Capture the box of your Nikon D700" challenge :P

I'm at work so the box is all I can do for now.

I've been looking at those for several weeks now.... :)

My last few challenges have been bombs but as soon as I figure out how to enter the right subject in relation to the challenge...I may start to creep back up to the 5.5 6.5 range.

Well, "unboxing" videos seem to be fairly popular whenever an eagerly anticipated tech toy is released, so maybe we should have an unboxing challenge.

Ok...got the cam opened and got a card in it. Took a few snapshots to be sure all was working....nothing to put in my portfolio though.

Of course I had to get a high ISO shot so I set to 4000 and snapped a pic of my sink and telephone...I tell ya...I'm impressed. No noticeable grain except in dark area cropped at 100% and even then it is low.

I'll try to get a decent set of shots Wednesday and post.

Yeee Haaaaa !

Thanks Bear....I'm going to do my daughter's Senior Pics and then use those to build a portfolio to use to get additional shoots in the coming year.

I also got the cam just in time for a play my daughter is doing this weekend. No flash photography allowed but it is a "pro" auditorium and with the D700 and my good zoom, I should get some decent shots.

Congrats on your new camera! I'm still basking in the joy of my Canon 7D upgrade a couple of weeks ago so I know how you must feel right now. :) Enjoy!

Thanks for the comments...I'm a working stiff so I still haven't really haven't tried it out on anything worthwhile.....I spotted something on the way to work and if the sun is right, I'll stop on the way home.

One of the most useful things I did with my D700 was to set the focus to AF-ON only rather than the release button, it just makes it much more versatile to use, you can also set one "profile" like that and the other with shutter release focus depending what you're doing with it.

Go through the manual and make use of the custom presets, it made a huge difference to me!

Thanks...so on the AF-ON...it will autofocus without holding the release button? Does it ever stop?

No, setting AF-ON will will mean it will only focus when you hit the AF-ON button on the back and won't focus when you press the shutter release button. It's great for focusing then you can recompose at will without holding the release button, and has the added benefit of instant manual focus on the AF-S lenses because you can just grab the manual focus ring and it won't re-focus when you hit the shutter button.
