Just bought a new Canon 100mm macro lens.
My next question which may sound silly, where to find bugs?
Around the yard all I have are flies, black widows, a rare sighting of a snail, mosquitos, and ants.
I would like to find a good book on the subject, all suggestions are welcome. |

the botanical gardens... not sure where you are but it;'s a good place to take mac shots of flowers, plants & the many creatures that are attracted to them. National parks are really good places as well.
Post some when you get some, 'kay?

You don't find bugs, bugs find you.
So the question to ask is, "Where do I go so that bugs will find me?"
As for the book thing,
your public library is always a great place to start.
(I recommend the children's area--they always have the best pictures and ideas on how to collect bugs, etc.)

Once I bought crickets from my local pet store. They feed them to reptiles they sell.

We live near a rainforest in NSW, Aust and have no problems finding all sorts of bugs, butterflies, bees. If you have some fragrant flowers put them out on your balcony and wait for the bees. |

Any dairy farms (or any farm with livestock) near where you live?
Also, some of our state parks are starting gardens especially planted to attract a wide variety of butterflies. They say it takes a few years for these to mature but I am looking forward to it and will go back a few times to watch progress.
