I buy all of my gear from www.mcbaincamera.com
Their prices are in line with anywhere else in Canada, and they have great service. |

Assuming you purchased the lens in the USA, there are no duty fees on camera gear, but you will be required to pay the HST.
If you do purchase something in the USA, what you do have to look for are brokerage fees by the transporter as those are quite substantial.
Since I live rather close to the border of upper state New York, I tend to purchase most of my equipment in the USA and have it shipped to a UPS store there and pick it up there... much cheaper.
The best of luck to you.

Eeh, that mcbain site doesn't seem that great. They want $629 for the sigma 10-20mm, whereas on the h&b site, its around $500 including the duty fee's... Anyone know how a P.O box works? I live minutes fromt the border crossing, so I could get them shipped to there couldn't I? Id still have to pay something at the border on the way back though right? |

You might find the information you need on Postal Boxes at a US Post Office Here
Considering you live right close to the border, you might want to see if they have a UPS Store there. There is one right across the border where I live and they charge me a $5.00 USD handling fee per box and then all I have to do is take my parcel and declare it at the border.
When you cross the border, you will have to pay the HST on the item purchased and voila done.
You might also want to check with the supplier you wish to purchase from. I order a lot of stuff from Abes of Maine since they do not charge state tax on anything being shipped out of state, and shipping is free.
Best of luck to you.

If you purchase something in the USA there are NO duty fees... none, nada, zero, zilch.
What you will have to pay is the HST, just as you would if you made the purchase in Canada.
