Japan Industry effected by quake

thanks.

im curious though, why bother with this line:

"As of this writing, it looks like there were no serious injuries or fatalities among employees of Japanese camera and consumer electronics companies as of now.

While most companies report that they are still assessing the damage caused by the most powerful quake in Japanese history, it seems that there have been no deaths, and injuries to camera company employees. "

seems kind of insensitive, like "thanks god none of the people that make our cameras got hurt, although other people died. it just reads funny, i would have left it out.

Yeah, I get what you mean...
when I read that line at first, I was scanning the article and thought it said no injuries and fatalities at all and did a double take.
I'll openly agree that it's somewhat silly to worry about camera production from the perspective of we poor photographers. What I took from it, though, is that there's a good chance that Japan's industries weren't horribly impacted. Considering the production of high end cameras and the necessity for careful manufacturing, it's a good sign for a country that exports hugely.
Pretty phenomenal that such specialized and high-tech manufacturing facilities were relatively unharmed; a testament to building techniques methinks.
