Sold four 5th row Lady Gaga tickets on Ebay because of a scheduling conflict so I spent the profit on an AB400 (came yesterday) and a Sekonic L-308S meter (got today locally).

Right out of the box after reading instructions, I shot this photo. May not seem great until you know that my previous skills did not allow me to ever get these two dogs exposed correctly in the same photo. The black and white just messes with your head.

I set the AB up pointed at ceiling and metered with the Sekonic and hit the first shot.

More to come.

It's great, isn't it? If more people would do this, there'd be a lot less lighting angst floating around. Back in the film days we had no choice, but with the onset of dSLR chimping, seat-of-the-pants strobing is firmly entrenched. But nothing beats the simple clarity of precision and repeatability.

Ok...just looked at this on my PC at work. It does not look NEARLY as good as at home on my Macbook. Macbook is calibrated with Spyder...work is not. However, its not only "color" but all aspects look bad at work.

Any suggestions?

I LOVE my light meter. The Ab's are pretty sweet too.

Just wait until you start playing with lighting ratios and all that, it is a whole new world.

This is the kind of thread that I need to be in a position to start. Where's a good place to learn how to use your combo of light meter and Alien Bees?
