I'm really enjoying learning PS and am considering doing a little photo restoration work as a very part time job. Any suggestions on books, equipment, etc... would be greatly appreciated

Thanx

I think a Wacom tablet (any size) will make your job much easier. Get a decent flatbed scanner with at least 1200 dpi optical resolution (2000+ would be better), as high a density range as you can (should be more than 3.6-3.8), and preferably with the ability to capture 48-bit color.

I do all my retouching on separate layers, leaving the original intact so I can always reference those pixels. I put separate parts of the retouching on their own layers so it's easier to make adjustments or move things around, and if there's a mistake it's easier to "start over" on a section without throwing away too much previous work.

..definetly make sure your work looks just as good 10x12 as it does 4x6 or on your screen. Print print print. Digital imaging is tricky when it comes to printing time! :-) Good luck though :-))))
