Here are my outtakes for the 4 challenge. I guess I learned my lesson, symbolism here doesn't go very far with the voters. Monday morning as soon as I saw the first votes I knew I should have submitted one with a more obvious meaning. Oh well . . . "there is always next time" |

Never question your selection. . If that is the shot that you chose, than that is the shot you should have chosen. I liked your image. 48 people gave you a 6 or better and 8 people voted it 8 or above which means it was one of their favorite picks that week.
What you are saying is really the age old question. Are we doing this to impress others or ourselves? The most successful artists are the ones who have been true to themselves first and through that people will see the gift they have...
Just my thoughts. I liked the image. Undoubtedly you did to. Don't forget about the ones who voted it high. They like it a lot also.

Hey Theik..I liked your submission a lot.
I got the meaning but...more importantly...I saw a very interesting image with a very nice crop and control of light and DOP.
I voted you an 8.
Keep the good work going :-) |

Thank you all for your comments, they are appreciated, especially davenit's. Public opinion changes like the tide, originality last.
It happens that I have one in the current challenge that I really like, though far from perfect, thats pretty much tanking.

Hey Thiek, no problem. Always remember as long as the fundamentals are sound (exp, framing etc) the rest is left up to taste and in that area the artists impression should be the only thing that comes through.
These things are tough. Especially dealing with a bunch of photographers. Sometimes technical merit is put above artistic merit. I have been a graphic designer for years so artistic merit out weighs technical when it is called for. When you are trying to drum up an emotion sometimes technical rules will be broken. I am OK with that. Some aren't. There lies the difference.
My shot in the Four competition was the pair of glasses titled Four Eyes. Some liked it, some hated it. It scored right in the middle (76th). But get what? Someone liked it who happens to work for an eyeglasses manufacturing company (major brand name withheld - LOL). I recieved an email about making some posters of it. I am still bouncing off the walls!!!
That story should bring a twinkle to your eye. Thought I would share it..
