Tried out the Chroma Green.

Edit: Added a blur to the BG.

Here's another...they wanted this cartoon background. I didn't really detail this one so some green remains.

Here is one of the original unedits.

Worked well!

The beach shot looks great. I'm still seeing an outline on the other one. I attended a seminar on CS4/5 processing and there were some great tips for fine tuning the selections.
The instructor made it look easy but I haven't mastered it yet. As for Chroma Green, in general, I think the 3/4 poses look pretty good overall, but full length shots are hard to get the depth and perspective right. You really need a good bg to pull it off.

Green-screening worked well, but I think a good dose of Lens Blur would be great on the background.

Yeah...the beach has some serious DOF in it for a close up ! I have a few others I'm working on and will post.

I got some tips from youtube that really worked well on getting the green off in one big mask. Really easy. I did have to tweak to get some green off of the edges...but not much.

I think I just didn't get enough light on the background. And, the fact that the subject I tried had a whole mess of stray hairs. Would it be alright if I posted an example?

Sure...post a few...I'm here to learn.

This one didn't turn out too bad but I really had to work at it. Like I said, my selection skills are pretty weak. I even watched the Youtube, too. These were just quick practice candids in the studio.
Here's another one I tried with my dog. It's been around for awhile.

The dog is really good !

I can see where the portrait may have given you some trouble with the dark and light areas. However, You did a good job on getting rid of all the green.

You know, it doesn't have to be green; formerly "blue-screening" was the standard for video ... in the "old days" a TV newscaster could never wear a blue shirt or tie, or else the graphic/film overlays would show up on their chest as well as the "screen" on the back wall.

What you want is any solid color which is not present in the subject, so you can use your editor's "Magic Wand" (Photoshop term) tool to easily select and mask by color.

You are right about the background. In the Wizard of Oz shot, I actually started out with a white bg. Used the wand and mask to get rid of the white.

However, the green works much better with the function known as "color range" under the "select" menu in photoshop. Using that tool really ZAPS the green right out. Rarely a need for other work. However, make sure you don't have green in your subject or it will become a "hole" !

Yes, exactly what would happen to the newscaster's blue shirt. Of course, you can always "patch" the hole by painting over it on the alpha channel before inserting the new background.
