Just wondering. Anyone still busy with the final steps of a book? If so, good luck for the next 2 days! |

Phew! Just finished mine.
Convergence- An Imaginary Study Into Collusion In Three Parts.
The month didn't quite go as planned and i didn't have time for it, or much photography anyway, but i got there in the end. Struggled the last few hours with the simple pdf and it's a pretty low quality one- i'm hoping to replace it with a higher res one if i can get time.
Also, looking forward to everyones books! Well done those who made it!

come on, sarah! you can do it!
nice work, clive, paul, and john!!
one comment: i'm not sure how different authoring tools produce pdfs, but if you have the option to make them lower-res, take advantage and produce smaller files that will load quicker.
one suggestion: get a free account at issuu.com so that you can really show off your work. issuu gives your readers a dynamice viewing experience that just doesn't happen in a standard, static pdf reader. |

Yes, i think i'll try Issuu. I did my book with Word, like last year. I was going to try a different authoring package but ran out of time to experiment so just went with the simple option. My first PDF came out as 24mb though so i had to export all the images at a lower res and start again. Second try came in at 6.5mb which is fine but i wonder if i'm losing much quality. I can't really tell the difference to be honest so i'll probably leave it as it is. |

Ha ha Skip. I know I can. Only started the shooting on 20th August (eta, that was by design!). My fuzzy period was only 10 days for this one. Photos are processed, a bit of content editing needed and then I'm done. Should be done tonight I think.

Had some problems with pdf yesterday and had to redo the whole book tonight! 10 days was quite a challenge due to a lack of free time in the evenings. But, it's done now. I do really enjoy doing this. This was my third year and now I look forward to 2012.

I did one!
I had done all the photos from my Okinawa trip but had such a trouble inserting the text that I sort of gave up. I also had a backup plan of using photos from the fireworks display and had edited them all. Then I gave up again because I didn't know where I'd be able to upload the pdf - until issuu.com was mentioned yesterday. So I cobbled the photos together in Scribus (and found out how to add the text, but not how to change the colour of the pages). As it's a bit of a last-minute job, you'll have to excuse the inexpert layout etc.

Are you going to upload it to the actual SoFoBoMo site as well? |

I had to bail on my project for this year- just have too much on my plate right now :(
I do hope to participate next year though, and look forward to looking over the books recently completed by others soon when I have a bit more time. Congrats to all who finished their projects! |

David, I don't think I have ever seen any of those fireworks like the kind on pages 21-22. I wonder how in the world those are made? Gorgeous photography and an excellent "last minute" production!
Sarah, I'd seen the individual shots but when you put them in a book like that, it really adds emphasis and tells more of a coherent story, you know? LOVELY work!! And really well done for such a short time! |

David, those images are spectacular. It must have been a heck of a show. Thanks Deb! I enjoyed putting them together I have to say. |

Deb, they're made in the usual way - it's just the way the photos are taken that makes them look like that.

Start with lens out of focus, then turn it to infinity during exposure. It has been called the focus blur technique. My one and only ribbon is an example. |

Just got an e-mail saying the SOFOBOMO will come to an end, as in they will not continue this during 2012. The website will be taken down at the end of 2011. Pity, I have enjoyed it for the last 3 years, but I can't say I blame them.

Dang, I was looking forward to 'next year.'
We have some talented photographers on this site, and some of them showed some exciting material in this expanded book format.
And Pug-H, I am in awe at how you got that many radishes to perform in unison in the page (21?) referenced elsewhere in this thread. Or in other words, fabulous photographic technique - I wanna try!
Just like some of the other techniques that are available for the asking on this site. |

Maybe we should just do our own DPC SOFOBOMO side challenge, using the same fuzzy month structure as the "real thing". |
