Since business has been slow here during the Winter months I decided to try out the video function on my 5DMII and the iMovie software on the iMac. I have a friend that is doing Rap so I volunteered to shoot a music video for him. This is the result.

OK, first off, not really into Hippity Hop myself, I prefer a nice Bach or Debussy (although partial to Saint Saens at Halloween) - so will not comment on the actual music. From a photography point of view I prefer the more shallow DOF stuff - looks more dynamic and interesting. To be honest kind of hard for me to comment as I only watched about 50 secs or so but you bumped so I commented!

Thanks Simms, yeah I'm not a big fan of the rap but wanted to give the video thing a go. I learned a lot from it and next time I plan on using a tripod and setting it up and reshooting each scene a few times from different angles and also using more of the lenses I have. I pretty much left the 17-40 on the camera .

I thought it was pretty good (and I'm not a rap fan either). One critique: I didn't like the use of some of the effects, like the lines through the video or the "old video" effect (vertical film lines): 1) they were just distractions, and 2) they gave me the impression of just doing them because you could.

Yeah I think a lot of the effects were done just to do them. One edit I had a ton of effects and transitions but I got rid of 90% of them. I should of had a better vision of the finished product before I started but that is something else I am taking away from this learning process.
