We'll just about to head out to shoot some deer with Snaffes. It should be great, as I have a new lens. I picked up a slightly used 300 f2.8l is for $2800. Which I couldn't pass up. So I'm very excited to see it's performance.
I'll try to post some shots, later today. Should be great!

| Congrats. the 300MM F2.8 was the sharpest Canon lens I ever shot with. Even sharper than the 400 or 500. Good luck. |

| Just got home with Ryan from shooting deer, and yep ladies and gents, that is a kick-ass lens. Looks cool as all hell too. That lens on the 5D MkII is way too big and heavy a setup for me, but that's why I shoot the *other brand* ;-) |

??? My f.4 300mm is nowhere near as heavy...unless there is a 2.8 version out there, in which case yeah, I'd guess it would be close in terms of weight and girth. |

LOL, you don't really think Matt would buy an f/4 lens do you? He seems to have a very strict f/2.8 or faster rule. :) |

So I'll say I'm very happy with this lens. I was wondering how the weight would feel. Usually I'm shooting with 3 pound lenses. Surprisingly, it did not feel heavy though. This was after 2+ hours of shooting deer with Snaffles. It seems to feel just rite in my big hands.
More stable, then heavy.
Performance wise, I'm impressed. Very sharp at f2.8 combined with the Is, was a huge benefit in the shadows. You do have to watch the depth of field though. It's very shallow at 2.8.
I loved the auto focus stop buttons, on the lens barrel. I found this a huge feature. Letting you shoot in constant tracking mode, but just hold the button and it locks focus. Letting you recompose the shot. Then when you let go of the button, its back tracking your moving subject.
Just brilliant! I really am looking forward, to learning this lens well. Yeah, I think I have a new favourite lens...
So enjoy the first few testers guys.

Man, I need to own one of those...
BTW, you should at least put a carriage return between those huge (gorgeous) images, as it's currently really messing with the layout. :) |

Yeah F4 lenses don't last too long in my world. I usually get frustrated and toss them in the recycle bin. The Nikon 300MM F2.8 IS I have is very close
in weight and size to the Canon 300MM F2.8 IS I had. And as sharp. I can't wait to get it out on the fields and run it through it's paces with the D3s.
Canon makes a nice light F4 version with or without IS and it's very similar to the Canon you have.
