Introduction:
This section contains a brief review of the trends in the number of images, # of votes and # of votes/image. The first portion is actual data from each challenge between 2002 and 2010.

Grand Average:188
2010 Only: 135

Votes per finishing position:
We know from experience that the votes aren't distributed evenly across the finishing positions. Here's a look at the average number of votes per finishing position:

Due to large variations over I chose to use only 2010 data for this analysis. The blue line, average number votes, shows that a typical blue ribbon image garners ~185 votes. From position 1 to 100 the number of votes drops to ~165 votes per image and between positions 100 to 200 it drops to ~155. After position 200 the average number of votes changes very little.

You may notice that although the blue line progressively flattens that it also becomes a bit more variable. The likely cause for this is that there a fewer challenges with high number of entries. The gray line shows the number of challenges per number of entries (finishing positions). For example there were 173 challenges with at least 26 entries but there were only 23 challenges with more then 200 entries. As mentioned above, as the number of values averaged decreases the average becomes more susceptible to variation.
