I really appreciate this type of image. There is more than one interpretation, so it'll be fun to see what people enter. I found a great shot today and have already entered, which is surprising, considering how much I hate Basic Editing. LOL

I looked up the definition of negative space on Wickepedia and it came up with "Negative space, in art, is the space around and between the subject(s) of an image. Negative space may be most evident when the space around a subject, and not the subject itself, forms an interesting or artistically relevant shape, and such space is occasionally used to artistic effect as the "real" subject of an image."

It's not like the past images on this challenge, seems like it's a minimalistic approach, in the past Negative space challenges, If I'm wrong correct me please.

Is anyone willing to look at a shot I took and offer feedback on it in terms of negative space (or lack thereof, possibly)? PM if interested. Thanks.

Hmm...by your definition, I almost wonder if I the shot I took, which I've been thinking doesn't qualify as negative space, actually IS an example?

I'm pming you!

Wikipedia is not always (nor often) a reliable reference. The Wikipedia description of Negative Space needs additional citations for verification, by their own top side statement. While it's okay to gather in other opinions, the trump card in this situation remains the DPChallenge text description of the challenge. "Challenge Details: As before, use the surrounding space of your subject to create the wow of the photograph." I think trying to make the negative space (as per Wiki's suggestion) into the subject may run your boat into the shoals.

What if my photo doesn't "wow" so much as just sit there lazily?

Would that make the shoals the negative space?

That would be a prime example of DNMC!

Wikipedia is right, not because it used citations, but because I know what negative space is and they are right. I refused to get into this discussion yet again during the challenge, but sheesh... let's try reality-based decision making for a while. Personally I added points for meeting the real definition and subtracted points for not meeting it.

Well, I guess we've definitively decided exactly what "negative space" is. Maybe Wiki should cite posthumous as THE authoritative reference. Then, we would know the truth.

My point is trusting your own knowledge. There's also this thing called a Dictionary that you can try out.

I gave you a 7 for being funny. People needed to be rewarded for that.

We absolutely need more (clean) humor around here, and besides, your entry is an absolutely literal representation of the challenge title.
